Amazon Expands Prescription Pet Medications Offerings

Tue 13th May, 2025

Amazon is significantly enhancing its medical offerings in the United States by entering the pet pharmaceuticals market. The company announced a new collaboration with Vetsource, a veterinary pharmacy, to expand its selection of pet supplies to include hundreds of prescription medications. Pet owners across the U.S. will now be able to order these medications directly through Amazon's ordering system.

Wendy Franks, the director of Amazon Pets, emphasized the company's mission to simplify the lives of pet owners. She stated that the objective is to enable individuals to care for all family members, including their pets, and to focus on spending quality time with them.

Through the partnership with Vetsource, Amazon will facilitate the dispensing and delivery of veterinary-prescribed medications. This includes a wide range of commonly prescribed treatments, such as flea and tick preventatives and therapies for chronic conditions. The selection of medications available on Amazon will be continuously updated, with all prescription drugs being approved by the FDA.

To purchase veterinary prescriptions on Amazon via Vetsource, pet owners will need to add their pet's prescription to their shopping cart. During the checkout process, they will enter the prescribing veterinarian's information. Once the veterinarian approves the prescription, it will be dispatched from one of Vetsource's pharmacies located in the U.S. The expected delivery time for these medications is typically between two to six days.

For subsequent orders of prescriptions, Vetsource will generally not require additional contact with the veterinarian, provided there is a valid prescription available for refills.
