Aldi to Close Online Shop, Focusing on Brick-and-Mortar Stores

Sat 29th Mar, 2025

Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have announced the closure of their online shop, set to take effect at the end of September. This decision will impact approximately 80 employees who are currently working in the e-commerce division.

The online platform, which offers a variety of non-food items, including household appliances, electronics, gardening tools, and furniture, will cease operations as the company seeks to concentrate on its core business--traditional retail. Both discount chains released a joint statement outlining their intention to redirect resources towards enhancing their physical store offerings.

According to reports, the online shop will continue to accept orders until September 30. Customers will be notified about the closure through a newsletter and an announcement on the website. Details surrounding the reasons behind the shutdown have yet to be elaborated upon by either Aldi Nord or Aldi Süd.

While the online shop will close, customers can still purchase non-food items directly in-store. Aldi's mobile applications and websites will remain operational, providing customers with access to recipes and current promotions for food items available in physical stores. Services such as Aldi Talk, Aldi Reisen, and Aldi Foto will continue as well.

The online shop was launched in 2021 but has struggled to achieve profitability, prompting the decision to discontinue it. Aldi has emphasized that the closure is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in the competitive grocery sector by focusing on in-store experiences.
