Tue 27th May, 2025

Adidas has acknowledged a data breach that has compromised customer information, as announced over the weekend. The extent of the data leak is still under investigation, though the company has confirmed that cybercriminals gained access to sensitive data.

In a security update, Adidas revealed that an unauthorized external entity accessed customer data through an appointed customer service provider. The company stated that immediate measures were taken to mitigate the situation and that a thorough investigation is ongoing, involving leading IT security experts.

According to Adidas, the exposed data does not include passwords, credit card details, or any other payment-related information. Instead, it primarily consists of contact details belonging to customers who have previously interacted with the customer service team. However, the company has not specified the time frame during which these data were available.

Adidas is also in the process of notifying potentially affected customers, as well as relevant data protection and law enforcement authorities, in accordance with applicable laws.

The method by which the attackers infiltrated the customer service provider remains unclear. Speculations include phishing for access credentials or exploiting security vulnerabilities in the software being used. So far, Adidas has not provided further details regarding the scale of the data breach or the specific types of information compromised.

Customers who have reached out to Adidas customer service in the past are advised to exercise caution with any incoming communications related to Adidas or sporting activities. With the stolen information, criminals could tailor phishing campaigns with greater precision, utilizing the knowledge of customers' previous interactions with the brand.
