Mainz Woman Returns Lost Wallet Containing EUR1,200

Sat 8th Feb, 2025

A remarkable act of honesty occurred in Mainz when a woman discovered a lost wallet containing a substantial amount of cash. On the evening of February 7, 2025, around 7 PM, the 38-year-old woman from Worms found the wallet in the Theater parking garage, which is located in the heart of Mainz.

Without hesitation, she took the wallet, filled with various personal documents and debit cards, directly to the nearby Mainz 1 police station. Shortly after her arrival, the wallet's owner, a 56-year-old man from Croatia, came searching for his missing belongings. It is believed that he had lost the wallet the previous evening.

Upon recovering his wallet at the police station, the man expressed his disbelief and gratitude towards the woman who had returned it. Eager to thank her for her integrity, he managed to contact her by phone and invited her back to the station.

During their interaction, the man inquired about an appropriate reward for the finder, and he was informed that a customary finder's fee is typically around 5% of the lost amount. However, he felt that this was insufficient given the circumstances. Ultimately, he decided to give her EUR200 as a token of appreciation, a gesture that the finder initially hesitated to accept. The man insisted on this reward, emphasizing that without her assistance, he would have lost all the earnings from his exhibition booth.

In addition to the monetary reward, he also presented the woman with his business card, encouraging her to reach out if she ever visited Croatia for a vacation. The finder gladly accepted both the cash and the card, viewing it as a delayed birthday gift.

This incident serves as a testimony to the value of honesty and the positive outcomes it can yield.
