Munich. The MVV will increase ticket prices for the new timetable in december. The reason for the increase is wage rises.

Fares of the MVV are expected to rise by 3 percent. The date for the tariff increase is the change of timetable on the 12th of December this year.

Last year in December the fare prices increased on average by 4.5 percent. Income rose from 610 million Euro in the year before to 618 million Euro in 2009.

As in the past, the price increase of tickets will not be consistent and will depend on the type of ticket purchased. Such details have not been finalised yet. The MVV will calculate all the details when the relevant calculations have been completed and passed on to them. "We have not yet received anything", says MVV spokeswoman Beate Brennauer.

Herbert König, head of the MVG, explained at an early stage that wage agreements of 5 percent play a significant role for the price calculation.

Andreas Nagel, spokesman of "Aktion Münchner Fahrgà¤ste" (Action Munichs passengers) explained: "three percent is the maximum." He refered to savings in the bus service and the minimal costs of the tram line 23 compared to the original bus service. As well as the inflation rate, staying under one percent.

The yearly ticket increases are mostly between 3 and 4.5 percent. The MVV usually calculates a moderate price increase for regular customers with season/monthly tickets, whereas passengers who travel with the so called Bartarif, travelling with single and strip tickets, are expected to see a greater increase in ticket prices.
