Corona rates continue to improve
Health departments in Germany reported 6114 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 218 more deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to figures released by the RKI. The number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, in part because less testing is performed on weekends. The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 05:30, subsequent changes or additions are possible.
In comparison, on Sunday last week, the RKI had recorded 8,616 new infections and 231Â deaths within one day. The worst day of 1244 newly reported deaths had been reached on January 14th. The highest number of new infections registered within 24 hours, 33,777, was reached on December 18th, but included 3,500 subsequent reports.
According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was 57.4 nationwide on Sunday morning. Four weeks ago, on January 17, the incidence had still been 136.
In related news, Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) rules out taking a vacation in Germany during the Easter vacations. "I am in favor of speaking truths. Easter vacations in Germany can not happen this year, unfortunately," he told Bild am Sonntag. "Too much mobility, for example, through travel and tourism already in April, is poison. We would destroy everything we have achieved since mid-December."
