Munich / Nuremberg. Today one should expect delays at both Munich and Nuremberg airports. Verdi, the public sector union, has called for the ground staff to strike, which results in five flights being cancelled in Munich

Approximately 120 employees in the aircraft handling section at Munich Airport laid down tools with the start of the morning shift at 3.30am.

By 6am five flights from Munich had already been cancelled, reported a spokesman for the airport.

Union members are invited to strike at 12 noon. It is unclear whether additional flights will depart late or be cancelled.

At Nuremberg airport employees of Flughafen Nürnberg GmbH and AirPart GmbH will also go on strike between 6 and 8am. The Fire Department also participated in this strike.

These strikes have occurred one day before the start of the next round of negotiations so as to put pressure on the union empoyers.

Verdi calls for public service workers to receive a five percent pay rise. However employers believe this rise is too high. Last week, the negotiations had been postponed due to non-agreement.
