Volkswagen Unveils Technical Details of the Upcoming ID. Polo Electric Hatchback
Volkswagen has released in-depth information regarding the forthcoming ID. Polo, offering insight into the technical framework of its next-generation compact electric vehicle. The ID. Polo is positioned as an electric alternative to the long-standing Polo series, utilizing the updated MEB+ modular electric platform, which will also underpin models from other group brands including the ID. Cross, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq.
The new ID. Polo sets itself apart from previous MEB-based electric vehicles by adopting a front-wheel-drive configuration. The entry-level version is expected to be priced below EUR25,000, targeting affordability within the expanding electric city car market. This base variant will be equipped with a 37 kWh usable battery pack, which Volkswagen estimates will deliver a range of approximately 300 kilometers based on the WLTP cycle. For consumers seeking greater range, an optional 52 kWh battery will be available, providing a projected range of up to 450 kilometers.
Charging capabilities have been enhanced in the ID. Polo. The larger battery variant supports up to 130 kW DC fast charging, enabling a standard charge from 10% to 80% in roughly 23 minutes. The standard model, with a charging limit of 90 kW, accomplishes the same in about 27 minutes. For home charging, an 11 kW AC onboard charger is included as standard equipment, with the charging port conveniently located at the front right of the vehicle.
Volkswagen emphasizes that the ID. Polo's dimensions closely match those of the current Polo VI, which has been produced with combustion engines since 2017 and will continue to be sold alongside the new electric version for the foreseeable future.
