Alcohol-Related Incidents in Schwerin: Two Drivers Arrested Without Licenses
Schwerin has witnessed a concerning rise in incidents involving intoxicated drivers, as local law enforcement apprehended two individuals this week, both lacking valid driver's licenses.
The first incident occurred on Tuesday morning when officers patrolling Hamburger Allee observed a blue Peugeot run a red light. In an attempt to halt the vehicle, a police officer had to leap aside to avoid being struck. The driver, a 55-year-old male from Algeria, was subsequently stopped. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.33%. Additionally, he was found to be driving without a valid license. As a result, he faces multiple charges, including assaulting a law enforcement officer, endangering public safety, and operating a vehicle without authorization.
The following night, another driver was apprehended in the same vicinity. This time, a 44-year-old man was found to be significantly over the legal limit, with a staggering blood alcohol level of 2.11%. He too was driving without a valid driver's license. Investigations are ongoing regarding charges of driving under the influence and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
Both individuals were subjected to blood tests, and their vehicles were impounded, preventing any further attempts to drive. These incidents highlight the persistent issue of impaired driving in the region and the ongoing efforts by local authorities to address it.
