Russia Claims Strikes on Ukraine: German Marder Armoured Vehicle Listed Among Losses

Recent reports from the Russian Ministry of Defence have outlined a series of military operations against Ukrainian targets, highlighting the destruction of several Western-supplied military vehicles, including German and American equipment. The ongoing conflict along the Ukrainian frontlines continues with both sides regularly issuing statements regarding military actions and claimed losses.

According to the latest Russian military bulletin, which covers the period from May 2 to May 8, 2026, Russian forces have reported significant Ukrainian losses in personnel and equipment. These figures, however, are based solely on Russian sources and have not been independently verified. The report specifies that the highest Ukrainian losses were recorded in areas where Russian 'Vostok' and 'Central' groups are operating.

Western Military Equipment Among Reported Losses

The Russian Defence Ministry's update lists the destruction of various Western-manufactured military assets. Among them, a German Marder infantry fighting vehicle was reportedly destroyed, alongside three US-made M113 armored personnel carriers and an Italian Puma armored vehicle. The Marder, introduced in 1970 and continually upgraded, is a key component of the Bundeswehr's mechanized infantry and has been delivered in significant numbers to Ukraine by Rheinmetall.

The report also details the interception and destruction of multiple Ukrainian military vehicles and artillery systems over the week. Russian claims include 114 armored vehicles, 593 other military vehicles, and 77 artillery systems either destroyed or rendered inoperative. Furthermore, Russian forces reportedly struck a Croatian RAK-SA-12 multiple rocket launcher, two Grad rocket launchers, and two robotic missile platforms.

Air Defence and Missile Interceptions

In addition to ground assets, Russian sources claim that their air defence systems intercepted 44 guided bombs, 18 HIMARS rockets, six 'Flamingo' cruise missiles, and six 'Neptune' guided missiles during the week. The report also mentions the downing of over 4,385 fixed-wing drones.

The Russian Ministry of Defence has also released cumulative loss figures for Ukrainian forces since the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022. According to these figures, Russia claims to have destroyed 671 aircraft, 284 helicopters, 144,279 drones, and 29,225 tanks or other armored vehicles. Additional reported losses include 1,717 multiple rocket launchers, 34,830 artillery systems and mortars, 659 air defence systems, and more than 61,000 military support vehicles.
