Robbery Incident Involving Fake Police Officers: Suspect Admits Guilt

In a shocking incident, two men disguised as police officers allegedly executed a robbery at a beverage wholesaler in Berlin. Approximately five months after the event, a 22-year-old suspect confessed to his involvement during court proceedings at the Berlin Regional Court.

The accused explained that he was coerced by his accomplice to partake in the crime to settle his debts. He recounted the events of the robbery, noting that although he brandished a knife when confronted by a witness, he did not harm anyone.

The charges against him include serious robbery, bodily harm, and impersonation of a police officer. The duo reportedly entered the market in Berlin-Moabit on March 28 and pretended to conduct a tax inspection. Under the guise of law enforcement, they managed to access the office of the manager, with the accomplice armed with a handgun.

During the ordeal, they restrained the manager and an employee. Using the manager's keys, they allegedly stole between EUR100,000 and EUR130,000 from the safe. Fortunately, the victims were able to free themselves and call for help. A witness initiated a chase after the suspects. While one suspect escaped on a scooter without the stolen money, the other, who had the cash, struggled to start his moped.

According to the prosecution, the 22-year-old engaged in a physical altercation with the pursuing witness, during which he drew a folding knife. In court, he described the pressure exerted by his accomplice, who had brought the weapon, clothing, and duct tape for the robbery. The young man expressed that he was frightened and intimidated during the crime.

He disclosed that approximately two years prior, he had committed a burglary with the same accomplice, stealing cocaine, which led to the latter demanding EUR18,000 from him under threat.

The accused has been in pre-trial detention since the day of the incident. The trial is set to resume on September 11.
