Pro-Palestinian Activists Disrupt Habeck's Campaign Event in Berlin

In a recent campaign event in Berlin, pro-Palestinian activists interrupted a rally held by the Greens featuring Chancellor candidate Robert Habeck. The disturbance occurred at the Columbiahalle, where the activists, approximately six in number, shouted slogans such as 'Free Palestine' from the balcony, prompting Habeck to pause his speech twice.

The demonstrators accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and claimed Germany bore responsibility by supplying weapons to Israel. Initially, the event organizers allowed the protests to continue before security personnel escorted several activists out of the venue.

Habeck responded empathetically to the protesters' concerns and addressed the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He characterized the Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in numerous fatalities, as a significant atrocity against the Jewish community since the Holocaust. He emphasized that such acts could not be tolerated by any state.

The suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip, he noted, remains tied to the actions of Hamas, though he clarified that this does not imply Israel has acted without limitations. Habeck acknowledged that certain actions taken by Israel could be deemed violations of international law. He pointed out the alarming number of Palestinian casualties, describing the attacks on innocent people as misguided and asserting that they should have ceased earlier. Furthermore, he underscored that Israel, like any other nation, must adhere to the principles of humanitarian international law.
