Messring Delivers Advanced 238-Meter Crash Test Facility in China
Messring, a leading German provider of automotive crash test technology, has successfully delivered and installed a state-of-the-art crash test facility in Hefei, China. The new installation significantly enhances the capacity for vehicle safety testing in line with international standards, supporting the ongoing development of automotive safety in the region.
The facility, supplied to the China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute (CMVR), features a total track length of 238 meters, comprising 135 meters of dual rail and 103 meters of single rail. This extensive configuration enables a wide range of precise and reproducible crash test scenarios for various vehicle types, including passenger and commercial vehicles.
Integrated within the test facility are two film pits, one dedicated to car-to-car collision testing and another located at the end of the track. These allow for detailed visual documentation and analysis of crash events, particularly in barrier crash scenarios. Additionally, a fixed crash block is incorporated, supporting comprehensive and in-depth examinations of vehicle impact resistance.
The advanced infrastructure is designed to accommodate numerous international testing protocols and regulatory requirements. The facility can execute frontal, side, and rear impact tests, along with more complex crash configurations tailored to both global and China-specific standards. The flexible layout also makes it possible to conduct custom tests, accommodating future advancements in vehicle safety technologies.
Further expanding its utility, the facility includes an integrated area for the evaluation of hydrobrake systems and guardrails, enabling safety assessments beyond conventional crash tests. This allows for additional scenarios to be tested within the same environment, improving efficiency and range.
Scalability was also a primary consideration during the planning and construction phases. The facility is built with future requirements in mind, offering the option to retrofit a drive system for enhanced testing capabilities as automotive technologies evolve.
The partnership between Messring and CMVR has a longstanding history, with previous collaborations laying the foundation for this latest project. The new crash test facility marks a significant expansion of CMVR's testing infrastructure, reinforcing the institute's ability to conduct comprehensive assessments that align with evolving safety standards and consumer protection protocols worldwide.
Messring is recognized for its expertise in the development and implementation of turnkey crash test systems as well as innovative active safety testing equipment. The company's portfolio includes over 140 realized crash and sled test installations globally, supported by a workforce of more than 170 employees.
