Investigation Underway Following BMW Explosion in Berlin, Young Man Seriously Injured
Berlin - A significant explosion occurred in a BMW M5 in Berlin-Schöneberg during the early hours of Friday, resulting in serious injuries to a 22-year-old man. Authorities have launched a homicide investigation, suspecting a possible attempted murder.
The incident took place around 1:30 AM on Ebersstraße, where a loud explosion was heard, causing panic in the vicinity. A young man was reportedly near the vehicle when the explosion happened, sustaining severe burns. Emergency services quickly transported him to a hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the injured individual is related to the owner of the BMW. Eyewitnesses stated that the young man approached the vehicle just as the explosion occurred, leading to immediate concerns for his safety.
The force of the blast was substantial, resulting not only in extensive damage to the car but also shattering a window at a nearby fire station on Feurigstraße. Witnesses claimed they heard multiple explosions, with one individual estimating at least ten distinct blasts.
Despite the rapid response from fire crews, the BMW was completely engulfed in flames, and several other parked vehicles nearby also suffered damage due to the explosion.
Law enforcement officials cordoned off the area, and the Fifth Murder Commission has taken over the investigation into the attempted homicide. At this stage, there is no indication of a political motive or any links to organized crime.
Forensic experts and bomb disposal units from the state criminal police are actively working on-site to gather evidence. The Analytical Task Force (ATF), comprising specialized investigators trained in handling chemical, biological, and radiological incidents, is also involved in the investigation.
