Hertha BSC Revamps Women's Football Structure
Hertha BSC is undertaking a significant restructuring of its women's and girls' football programs, marking a new chapter for the club. This initiative follows a partnership established nearly two years ago with Hertha 03 Zehlendorf, and as the new season approaches, both clubs are set to realign their collaborative efforts.
The restructuring will see the girls' and women's teams divided into two distinct categories. The U13, U15, U17, U20, and the first women's team will now fall under a performance-oriented framework, with all activities centralized in Westend. Conversely, teams including the U11, U13 II, U15 II, U17 II, and the third women's team will continue to be managed by the cooperation partner in Zehlendorf, albeit with ongoing support from the Charlottenburg club.
Anne Noske, the deputy president of Hertha BSC, emphasized the need for more professional structures to establish women and girls as equal and successful members of the Hertha family. She indicated that this restructuring is a crucial component of their ongoing development process.
Currently, the first women's team competes in the third-tier Regionalliga and is facing a challenge, trailing by five points behind the leading teams, RB Leipzig II and Viktoria Berlin, as they head into the second half of the season. The only team that secures the top position will qualify for the promotion playoffs to ascend to the second division.
With this move, Hertha joins Union Berlin and Viktoria Berlin as the third club in the capital to enhance its women's football operations. Union secured promotion to the second division last season and is on a successful trajectory, while Viktoria restructured its framework in 2022 with aspirations of reaching the Bundesliga within five years.
