GEDISA Reports Over One Million E-Prescriptions Processed
GEDISA has announced a significant milestone, reporting that more than one million electronic prescriptions (E-prescriptions) have been processed through its app and partner applications since the introduction of the Card-Link system approximately five months ago. This information highlights the increasing reliance on digital solutions in the pharmacy sector.
According to GEDISA, eight out of ten pharmacies are utilizing their customer app, ApoGuide, which has proven to be a successful model for local pharmacies. The Card-Link system facilitates digital connections between pharmacies and their customers, allowing for seamless prescription management.
The initiative aims to demonstrate that local pharmacies can effectively compete with larger online retailers in the realm of E-prescriptions. GEDISA emphasizes its commitment to supporting pharmacies through its role as an IT company dedicated to the pharmacy sector.
The Card-Link approval, granted to GEDISA in September 2024, initiated the adoption of this system among pharmacies. Notably, Doc Morris was the first to implement the system on April 10, followed by Redcare on April 23. As reported by the TI Dashboard from Gematik, a total of over 660 million E-prescriptions have been redeemed nationwide.
The introduction of the Card-Link system had been a focal point of contention, with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing it despite opposition from other stakeholders within Gematik. This decision faced criticism, particularly from health insurance companies and online pharmacies, who had been advocating for a streamlined process for redeeming E-prescriptions. The European umbrella organization representing online pharmacies had previously commissioned technical groundwork for this system, leading to the first specifications being drafted in December 2023.
As the landscape of pharmacy services continues to evolve, GEDISA's achievements in E-prescription processing mark a significant development in the healthcare sector, underscoring the shift towards digital solutions that enhance patient accessibility and pharmacy efficiency.
