Fully Funded Scholarship Opportunity at the Bavarian International School for 2026-27

A transformative educational opportunity is now open to talented students in the Munich area. The Bavarian International School (BIS) has announced a new fully funded scholarship for students entering Grades 9-12 in the 2026-27 academic year. Applications for the prestigious Dr. Chrissie Sorenson Scholarship are open until March 16, 2026.

The scholarship is available to German or international students with permanent residence in Germany whose families can demonstrate financial need. Designed to identify and support exceptional young people, the program seeks students who combine academic excellence with commitment, character, and strong English-language skills. Students already enrolled at BIS are not eligible.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Coordinated by the Friends of BIS e.V. association and fully funded by a private donor from the BIS community, the Dr. Chrissie Sorenson Scholarship reflects the school's long-standing commitment to widening access to international education. Named after BIS Headmistress Dr. Chrissie Sorenson, the initiative continues the school's tradition of educational philanthropy.

BIS, a non-profit IB World School with campuses in Munich-Schwabing and Haimhausen, has previously launched three successful scholarship programmes -- Believe, Inspire, and Succeed -- echoing the school's guiding values. This new award marks the fourth scholarship initiative, reinforcing BIS's position as a pioneer in Germany's international school landscape.

"We are very proud and grateful to be the only international school in Germany to offer a scholarship program. We want to further expand this program and are looking for interested corporate partners who want to commit to corporate social responsibility," says Headmistress Dr. Chrissie Sorenson.

Opening Doors to the World

The impact of the scholarship programme is already evident. Isabella, the first BIS scholarship recipient, describes her experience in powerful terms:

"The BIS scholarship has truly changed my life; it has given me self-confidence and enabled me to realize my dream. My time at the Bavarian International School has fostered my academic development, allowed me to grow holistically, and helped me build international connections with leaders and forward-thinking individuals. And finally, the IB Diploma opens all doors to universities and my future career paths!"

At BIS, students pursue the internationally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, equipping graduates with academic rigour, global perspective, and pathways to leading universities worldwide.
