Fatal Stabbing of 20-Year-Old Syrian at Berlin's Humboldt Forum

Berlin - Following a deadly stabbing incident at the Humboldt Forum on Friday evening, police are yet to make significant progress in their investigations and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. The circumstances surrounding the attack have revealed the tragic efforts made by medical personnel to save the life of a 20-year-old Syrian.

On the day of the incident, a group of Afghan individuals confronted three Syrians, resulting in a violent altercation. The victims were assaulted and stabbed multiple times, with the 20-year-old sustaining severe injuries, including a wound to the heart. Emergency responders performed resuscitation attempts while transporting him to the hospital.

Upon arrival, medical teams opened his chest to directly stimulate the heart muscle, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later that night. The two other Syrians, aged 22 and 23, also sustained injuries but were reported to be in stable condition with only minor wounds.

Authorities are investigating whether there is a connection between this incident and another stabbing that occurred near the Humboldt Forum three weeks prior. On August 23, a confrontation between two groups on the Karl-Liebknecht-Brücke resulted in six men being injured, one of whom suffered life-threatening injuries to his back. The other victims, aged between 20 and 26, sustained various cuts and stab wounds to their hands, legs, and upper bodies.

In both instances, police identified all involved parties as Afghan nationals. A 14-year-old suspect was apprehended and subsequently handed over to child welfare services. Investigators are currently examining links between the violent events of August and September.
