Wissensdurst und Aufklärung
The 18th century was the age of Enlightenment, a time when the natural sciences flourished like never before. Scientific instruments supported education at universities and helped a broader audience understand the laws of nature.
Approximately 50 splendid works from the Physical Cabinet of the University of Würzburg, which have been part of our museum since 1877, are now being displayed for the first time in over 100 years. These curious and beautiful 18th-century objects illustrate the concepts of mechanics, hydraulics, optics, magnetism, and electricity in an engaging manner. Some pieces were standard inventory for such collections, while others are unique creations by Würzburg scholars.
Entertaining videos created by students from Luitpold-Gymnasium Munich explain the functions of selected items.
Guided tour with curator Dr. Ralph Beuing on Thursday, 25.09. at 18:00. The studio exhibition will run until 11.01.2026.
