Vhils - Strata
Experience the first solo exhibition of renowned artist Alexandre Farto, known as Vhils, in Germany at the MUCA - Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art. This exhibition showcases a comprehensive selection of works from 2005 to 2025, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of Vhils' distinctive artistic style through a diverse range of materials, techniques, and conceptual approaches.
At the heart of Vhils' work lies a profound exploration of the complex nature of cities and the people who inhabit them. His subtractive technique, which involves erasing surfaces to reveal hidden stories, reflects how time, globalization, and gentrification shape urban environments.
The exhibition features significant pieces from the delicate wall carvings of the 'Scratching the Surfaces' series to explosive relief sculptures, large-scale installations, and mixed-media compositions. Additionally, Vhils presents unseen archival materials from his personal collection at MUCA.
Guided tours are available on April 4th and 11th at 16:30, as well as an After-Work tour on March 24th at 18:30. Family tours for ages 8 and up will be held on May 3rd at 15:00, June 1st at 16:00, and July 19th at 13:00 (until November 30th).
Moreover, Vhils has installed a spectacular piece from his 'Latency Series' at KUNSTLABOR 2 (Dachauer Str. 90); the antenna symbolizes an outdated form of communication, while the mass of satellite dishes serves as a metaphor for the complexities of hyperconnectivity in the globalized age.
