Sebastian Haffner >Abschied< - Lesung mit Matthias Brandt
Literaturhaus
Raimund is in love with the adored Teddy, who emigrated from Germany in the early 1930s to Paris. There, they attempt to enjoy the French freedom and halt the future. This significant novel, written in 1932 on the brink of Nazi rule, was never published. The jurist and journalist Sebastian Haffner (1907-1999) emigrated to England, where he authored several works, including the posthumously published 'Geschichte eines Deutschen'. He later became a prominent journalist in the Bonn Republic. His newly discovered early novel 'Abschied' (Hanser, with a foreword by Volker Wedermann) celebrates cosmopolitanism, love, and exuberance with unique wit and speed.
