Der Kolonialismus in den Dingen

Museum Fünf Kontinente

The large-scale exhibition presents unique historical artifacts from Africa, Asia, and Oceania that arrived in Munich during the colonial era and are now often regarded as masterpieces. Historical contexts are supplemented by contemporary contributions from researchers from Cameroon and Tanzania, as well as a lyrical intervention. This exhibition opens up diverse perspectives on an era marked by violence, the effects of which are still felt today.

Accompanying program includes:

  • Curator's tour with PD Dr. Richard Hölzl on Sunday, April 27 and May 11 at 14:00.
  • Lecture as part of the Lucian Schermann Lecture series - "Commonalities and Differences. A Midterm Assessment of the Debate on the Looting and Return of Cameroonian Cultural Heritage in Germany" with Prof. Dr. Albert Gouaffo on Thursday, May 8 at 19:00.
