5/8erl in Ehr'n & Jazzorchester Vorarlberg
Welcome to a special East-West meeting! 5/8erl in Ehr'n is one of the most successful bands from Vienna in recent years, having created their own genre known as Wiener Soul. Their unique two-part harmonies are complemented by extraordinary and often beautiful lyrics, leading to dreamy excursions into the 'vast land', as Schnitzler referred to the soul, mixed with pointed irony from everyday Austrian life. Their music, characterized by delicate, butterfly-wing-like ballads and vibrant grooves, is a blend of soul, funk, and reggae, enhanced by an exhilarating energy in this program, filled with powerful yet playful sounds.
The Jazzorchester Vorarlberg, a contemporary ensemble rooted in the classic big band tradition, joins the 5/8erl voices, styling their sound with rich brass arrangements. The two bands share a similar history: the Jazzorchester Vorarlberg was founded in 2005 by trumpeter Martin Eberle and saxophonist Martin Franz, while 5/8erl in Ehr'n came together a year later in Vienna.
The instrumental trio of Liebermann-Scheutz-Wenger collaborates with drummer Christian Eberle and keyboardist Benny Omerzell to form an irresistible new unit, featuring two keyboard wizards at work. The arrangements offer more than just grand orchestral expansions; they add new dimensions to the pieces, with dazzling brass sections and ecstatic solos that underscore or even counter the sung lines, and newly composed instrumental interludes that tell their own stories. It's a beautiful opportunity to experience such a richly populated program in these sparse times!
