The term 'Surveyor' refers to land surveying in English, highlighting the app's purpose. Reports suggest that Apple is considering partnerships with organizations that facilitate task distribution among individuals. One potential partner is Premise, a crowdsourcing platform that connects users with simple tasks in exchange for small rewards. Tasks related to the Surveyor app may include photographing roadside signs and traffic lights, thereby aiding Apple in accurately positioning details on its maps.
Although Premise is not yet officially listed as a partner for Apple Maps, the functionality of the Surveyor app suggests that its use may already be underway. The overarching goal is to ensure that Apple Maps remains current, even with minor details. Premise is currently engaged in gathering information for various platforms, including business hours and pricing, and is increasingly utilized for generating training data for artificial intelligence systems.
