Technical Malfunction Forces Emergency Landing of Flight from Corfu

Düsseldorf/Korfu - A flight returning from a holiday in Corfu turned into a distressing experience for passengers when it was forced to make an emergency landing due to a malfunction in one of its engines. The Condor-operated Boeing 757 had to divert to Brindisi, Italy, shortly after takeoff on Saturday evening, August 16, 2025.

The flight, designated DE 3665, was scheduled to land in Düsseldorf at 21:35. However, shortly after departure, issues arose with the right engine. A spokesperson for Condor confirmed that the aircraft, carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members, landed safely in Brindisi due to a parameter reading that was outside the normal range, prompting the decision to reroute.

Reports from passengers indicated that flames were seen coming from the engine, likely due to problems with the air supply necessary for the combustion of jet fuel. This alert was communicated to the pilot, leading to the precautionary landing. Condor stated that the aircraft landed safely in Brindisi at 20:15 local time and would undergo a thorough technical inspection.

Following the emergency landing, passengers were initially informed that they would be accommodated in local hotels. However, many were left to spend the night at the airport due to a lack of timely arrangements. Condor later dispatched a replacement aircraft expected to transport the travelers to Düsseldorf at approximately 10:30 the following morning. The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience but emphasized that passenger and crew safety remained the top priority.

On flight tracking service Flightradar24, the route taken by the Boeing was visible, showing the aircraft's redirection shortly after its departure from Corfu.

This incident mirrors a similar occurrence from just weeks prior when a TUIfly Boeing 737 had to make an emergency landing in Italy while en route from Corfu to Düsseldorf. In that case, the flight, carrying 189 German tourists, also experienced technical difficulties shortly after takeoff, resulting in the pilot declaring an emergency and successfully landing in Bari.
