Firefighters Respond After Children Start Fire at Berlin School
Emergency services were called to a primary school in Berlin's Hellersdorf district after a fire broke out on the premises. According to reports from local authorities, three children were involved in starting the fire, which prompted a swift response from the fire brigade.
Initial investigations indicate that two boys, both aged thirteen, and an eleven-year-old companion entered the school building through a window on a Sunday afternoon. Once inside, the children ignited pieces of paper and placed them on a sofa. The flames quickly consumed the paper and spread to the sofa, causing further damage in the room.
Upon recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the children themselves contacted emergency services. Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze before it could spread to other areas of the school or cause more significant destruction. The rapid intervention of the fire brigade prevented the fire from reaching other rooms or equipment within the building.
The incident resulted in damage to the walls surrounding the origin of the fire, as well as to a cable strip and several ceiling lights. At the time of the incident, no other individuals were present inside the school. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the children or emergency personnel.
After the situation was brought under control, the three minors were handed over to their legal guardians at the scene. Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into suspected arson. The specific school where the incident occurred has not been disclosed by the police as part of ongoing inquiries.
This event highlights the importance of fire safety awareness among children and the need for secure school premises outside of regular hours. Authorities have reiterated the significance of responsible behavior and have reminded parents and guardians to discuss the dangers of fire with their children.
While the damage was contained and no one was harmed, the incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with unsupervised access to public buildings. The investigation by police continues to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fire and any further steps that may be required to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
