Violent Robbery in Berlin: Victim Defends Himself Against Attackers
A 69-year-old man became the target of a violent robbery on Saturday evening in the Hellersdorf district of Berlin. The incident occurred as the individual was waiting for an elevator in the entrance area of a residential building on Alte Hellersdorfer Straße.
According to police reports, two unidentified men approached the victim around 9:15 p.m. and initiated a sudden assault. One of the attackers forcefully pulled the man to the ground, while the other delivered blows to his chest. The assailants continued to strike and kick the victim, focusing their efforts on overpowering him.
During the attack, the perpetrators managed to forcibly remove a high-value wristwatch from the victim's arm. Simultaneously, the second attacker attempted to steal the man's wallet. Despite being outnumbered and physically assaulted, the victim resisted by biting one of the attackers on the hand. He then called out for help, prompting the assailants to abandon their attempt and flee the scene.
The victim sustained injuries to his hand and torso as a result of the assault. Emergency medical personnel provided on-site treatment for his wounds, which did not require hospitalization. The Berlin police have launched an investigation into the matter, with the local criminal investigation department of Police Directorate 3 (East) taking the lead in gathering evidence and seeking information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
The incident underscores concerns about personal safety and the prevalence of street crime in certain areas of Berlin. Authorities continue to urge residents to exercise caution, particularly in public and communal spaces, and to report any suspicious activity immediately. The police are appealing to potential witnesses who may have observed the incident or noticed suspicious individuals in the vicinity at the time of the assault to come forward with relevant information.
