Criminal Network Used Cream Cakes to Transport 30 Kilograms of Cocaine from Berlin to Prague

Authorities have uncovered a sophisticated drug smuggling operation in which a criminal group allegedly concealed large quantities of cocaine inside cream cakes to transport the narcotics from Berlin to Prague. According to information released by the Czech anti-narcotics police, the group managed to move more than 30 kilograms of cocaine across the border using this inventive method.

The scheme involved hiding bricks of cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram, within the interior of cakes. To avoid detection, the cakes were carefully decorated with whipped cream, effectively disguising any alterations or signs that the cakes had been tampered with. The drug-laden desserts were then placed in standard cake boxes and individually carried by couriers traveling on commercial buses between the German and Czech capitals.

Investigators report that the criminal organization capitalized on the higher street prices for cocaine in the Czech Republic compared to Germany. By transporting the drugs to Prague, the group aimed to maximize profits on the illicit market. The network is suspected to have recruited young individuals facing financial hardship to act as couriers. These couriers would travel with the cakes, posing as ordinary passengers, and deliver the narcotics to contacts in Prague.

The operation resulted in the detention of several suspects, including seven foreign nationals and one Czech citizen. Five individuals are currently in pre-trial custody as authorities continue their investigation. Due to legal restrictions, the specific nationalities of the foreign suspects have not been disclosed by the Czech police. If convicted, the accused face potential prison sentences of up to 18 years for their roles in the smuggling operation.

In addition to trafficking cocaine, the group is alleged to have distributed other illicit substances such as crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy, and LSD. These drugs were reportedly marketed via an encrypted online messaging service, broadening the network's reach and customer base. The investigation also revealed that the group used various methods to attract couriers, specifically targeting young people in vulnerable financial situations.

During coordinated raids, law enforcement officials seized a significant quantity of narcotics, cash amounting to approximately 20,000 euros, a vehicle, and several luxury watches. Authorities believe these assets were acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking activities.

The success of this operation highlights ongoing efforts by international law enforcement agencies to combat the cross-border trafficking of illegal substances. The use of everyday items, such as cakes, to conceal drugs demonstrates the lengths to which criminal organizations will go to evade detection and profit from the narcotics trade. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to identify additional suspects and dismantle the network's broader infrastructure.
