These healthcare providers reported that their operating theaters and intensive care units reached near-capacity as they worked to treat individuals suffering primarily from fractures and other trauma related to falls on icy surfaces.
Healthcare administrators noted that while the highest concentration of cases occurred over the weekend, the repercussions are still being felt as hospitals continue to schedule and perform further operations to address injuries sustained during the hazardous weather. The critical demand for care prompted some institutions to warn of the potential for operational strain, emphasizing the importance of coordinated responses from both medical staff and city authorities during periods of adverse weather.
Officials have reiterated the need for caution among city residents as winter weather persists, advising individuals to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of falls.
