Police Operation in Aschaffenburg Following Violent Attack in Apartment Building
Authorities in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, responded to a serious incident on Monday morning after a violent altercation occurred in a multi-family residential building. A 55-year-old man reportedly attacked his former wife, aged 42, and her current partner, aged 44, inflicting life-threatening injuries on both individuals.
The situation unfolded in the Haidstraße area, where a neighbor alerted emergency services after hearing a loud argument. Police units arrived at the scene and found the two victims outside the building, both suffering from severe stab wounds. The woman, originally from Ukraine, and the man, who holds German and Moroccan citizenship, appeared to have managed to escape the apartment after the assault. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate care, and both individuals were transported to a local hospital. The woman required emergency surgery, and the man also underwent an operation due to the extent of his injuries.
Initial information suggested that the perpetrator might still be armed and at large within the city. Police established a perimeter around the area, deployed a helicopter for aerial support, and requested that the public refrain from offering rides to strangers. The incident prompted a large-scale law enforcement response, including the deployment of a Special Operations Command (SEK) team to secure the location and ensure public safety.
As the investigation progressed, police focused on the possibility that the suspect, an Armenian national who was previously married to the female victim, might still be inside the building. The SEK team entered the apartment later in the morning, where they found the suspect deceased. Preliminary findings indicate that he died by suicide, although the exact circumstances are still under review by authorities. The specific object used during the attack remains under investigation.
The area surrounding the well-maintained residential building was cordoned off to allow for a thorough examination of the crime scene. The Criminal Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office have initiated proceedings to clarify the sequence of events and to establish the precise motives behind the attack. Investigators are pursuing the case as attempted manslaughter in two instances.
In response to the incident's traumatic nature, authorities have reminded the public of available mental health resources for those experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts. Support services can be accessed through the national helpline, which offers confidential counseling and assistance in difficult situations.
