57-Year-Old Woman Injured After Falling from Stolen E-Bike

In Mechernich, a 57-year-old woman from Zülpich sustained injuries following a fall from an electric bicycle, commonly known as a pedelec, on August 1, 2025. Authorities reported that the woman was found on the side of Kreuzweingartener Straße, exhibiting signs of intoxication with a blood alcohol content of 3.52%. Nearby, police discovered two partially emptied bottles of brandy.

Despite suffering minor injuries, the woman declined medical treatment, opting instead to refuse assistance from emergency services. A subsequent check of the pedelec's frame number revealed that the bicycle had been reported stolen. Consequently, law enforcement officers transported the woman to the police station for a blood sample collection, while the pedelec was secured for further investigation.

Law enforcement has initiated an inquiry into the incident, focusing on both the circumstances surrounding the woman's fall and the theft of the bicycle. The investigation aims to gather more information, which may lead to further legal actions.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety and the implications of alcohol consumption while operating vehicles, even those that are electrically powered. Authorities continue to urge the public to exercise caution and responsibility when using such modes of transport.
