Fans of the beloved comedy series 'Stromberg' have reason to celebrate as production has officially commenced on a new film adaptation. The character Bernd Stromberg, portrayed by Christoph Maria Herbst, will make his much-anticipated return to the big screen, streaming platforms, and television.
The release date for 'Stromberg - The New Film' has been set for December 4, 2025, according to the production team. Filming is currently taking place in various locations across Cologne and Berlin.
This marks a significant comeback for 'Stromberg', which originally aired from 2004 to 2012 on ProSieben and garnered a dedicated following. Following the series' conclusion, a film was released in 2014, but this new project represents the character's first return in several years. Herbst, reflecting on the time that has passed, humorously noted that both the cast and crew have felt the effects of time, with increased makeup application and slightly tighter costumes. However, he reassured fans that the essence of the series remains unchanged.
Bernd Stromberg is known for being an archetypal unpleasant boss, a role that catapulted Herbst to fame. In late 2024, the production team unexpectedly announced the revival of this iconic character, much to the delight of fans.
Returning alongside Stromberg will be familiar faces from the original series, including characters like Ernie Heisterkamp, played by Bjarne Mädel, and Ulf Steinke, portrayed by Oliver Wnuk. The new film aims to juxtapose Stromberg's outdated management style with the modern workplace environment, providing ample opportunity for humor and social commentary.
Following its theatrical release, 'Stromberg - The New Film' will be available for streaming on Prime Video and will subsequently be broadcast on ProSieben. The film is being produced by MadeFor Film in collaboration with Prime Video, SevenPictures for ProSieben, and Banijay Media Germany.
