The fireworks display in the Olympiapark has become one of the highpoints in Munich's summer schedule over the last several years. This year the Spider Murphy Gang, one of the city's most successful rock acts, will be performing on Saturday evening 21 July. Since 1977 these Munich originals have been unofficial ambassadors for the Bavarian capital. This will be the first time they have ever played in the Olympic Stadium.

2012 is also the fortieth anniversary of the Olympiapark (Olympic Park). Built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, this complex was home to both local football clubs FC Bayern and 1860 München before they moved to the Allianz Arena. Other features of the park are the 291 metre-tall Olympic Tower and the Olympia-Eisstadion, which is the home of the local ice hockey club EHC Red Bull München.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, then the spectacle of four tons of fireworks and more than 12,000 rockets should delight people of all ages. This firework display is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. You really do not want to miss it.
