The European Patent Office in Munich is seeking an Administrator (country co-ordinator) *

in Directorate 5.1.2 (International Co-operation)

The EPO conducts IP co-operation work all over the world, including implementation of projects funded by third parties such as the European Commission. Within Principal Directorate 5.1 (European and International Co-operation), Directorate 5.1.2 (International Co-operation) co-ordinates the EPO’s bilateral relations with non-EPO member states (with the exception of the EPO’s Trilateral partners Japan and the US), manages co operation programmes in those countries and implements any EU-funded projects there.

The directorate is looking for an administrator (country co ordinator) to join its team.
Main duties

Conducting negotiations, drafting Work Plans (WPs) and reviewing Strategy Papers for co operation, especially in Asia (China, Korea, India and the ASEAN countries), in co ordination with the partner IP offices and EPO technical units Co ordinating and monitoring the WPs’ implementation in the countries concerned (including budgeting and reporting) Acting as central contact person, preparing documents and making proposals for relations with external stakeholders in the relevant countries Other administrative tasks as required.

The ideal candidate will have:

proven organisational and co-ordination skills good knowledge of the IP situation in Asia and of the region’s co-operation needs in the field of patents experience in negotiating and co ordinating the implementation of IP co-operation activities (especially in the patent field) knowledge of EPO and EU regulations and procedures for co-operation project procurement basic knowledge of programme-management tools (MSP and Prince2 are used at the EPO).

Minimum qualifications

Diploma of completed studies at university level or – in exceptional cases – equivalent professional experience. Excellent knowledge of one official language** and ability to understand the other two.

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of qualifications, supplemented as appropriate by interviews and/or tests.

It is intended to hold the interviews in calendar week 24 of 2012.
